GIMS, born Gandhi Djuna and formerly known as Maître Gims, is a Congolese-French singer, rapper and songwriter originating from Kinshasa and based in France, active from the mid-2000s to the present. He first gained prominence as a member of the French rap collective Sexion d'Assaut before establishing a solo career that blends French rap, pop, R&B and Afrobeat influences. Known for a powerful baritone voice and melodic delivery, his music often combines sung choruses with rap verses and polished, radio-friendly production; themes in his work include personal identity, relationships and urban life. GIMS has recorded in French and other languages and is recognized for high commercial visibility within francophone pop and urban music.
