Blue Öyster Cult
Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in the late 1960s in Long Island, New York, known for blending hard rock, heavy metal, and elements of psychedelic and progressive rock. Active chiefly from the early 1970s onward, the group gained wide recognition in the 1970s and 1980s for guitar-driven compositions, melodic hooks, and literate, often mystical or science-fiction–tinged lyrics. Their sound features dual guitar work, prominent rhythm sections, and a mix of radio-friendly songs and longer, more atmospheric tracks. The band is noted for its theatrical stage presence and for bridging mainstream rock sensibilities with darker, more experimental themes.
