Kenshi Yonezu is a Japanese singer-songwriter, producer and illustrator known for blending J-pop with elements of rock, electronic and folk music. He began releasing music in the late 2000s, first gaining attention under the Vocaloid pseudonym Hachi before debuting commercially under his own name in the 2010s; his period of activity spans the 2010s into the 2020s. Yonezu’s work is characterized by melodic hooks, layered electronic production, and introspective, often narrative lyrics delivered with a distinctive vocal style; he frequently combines polished studio arrangements with personal artistic visuals and has been involved in both songwriting and production of his recordings.
