Utopia

Utopia
Utopia was an American rock band formed and led by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Todd Rundgren, active primarily from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s with later reunions. The group evolved from Rundgren’s solo work into a cohesive band known for blending progressive rock, pop rock and art-rock tendencies with elements of new wave in their later period. Utopia’s music combined complex arrangements, virtuosic instrumental work and polished studio production with concise pop songwriting at times, alternating between elaborate, synth- and guitar-driven progressive suites and tighter, radio-friendly songs. The band was noted for its high level of musicianship, emphasis on ensemble interplay and experimentation with electronic instruments and studio techniques.
