Village People

Village People is an American disco group formed in the late 1970s, known for its upbeat dance-oriented music and flamboyant stage personas. Originating in New York City, the ensemble combined elements of disco, pop and dance music, producing catchy, rhythm-driven songs often featuring strong four-on-the-floor beats, prominent basslines and sing-along choruses. The group became notable for its costumed characters—such as a policeman, a cowboy and a leatherman—which contributed to a distinctive visual identity and theatrical live performances. Active primarily from the late 1970s onward, Village People achieved commercial success with mainstream hits that remain associated with the disco era.
