Against the Modern World

Sol Invictus

Sol Invictus is a British neofolk and post-industrial musical project formed in London in 1987 by singer-songwriter Tony Wakeford. Combining acoustic instrumentation such as guitar, violin and percussion with occasional electronic textures, the project is noted for its somber, atmospheric sound that draws on folk traditions, European classical influences and elements of darkwave and industrial music. Lyrically and thematically, Sol Invictus often explores history, mythology and sombre reflections on modernity, delivered in Wakeford's baritone voice and a restrained, measured arrangement style. The project has been active across several decades, releasing numerous albums and maintaining an influential presence within alternative and neofolk circles.
