Band Aid was a British and Irish charity supergroup formed in 1984 by musician Bob Geldof and record producer Midge Ure to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. Drawing members from prominent pop and rock acts of the era, the ensemble recorded the single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which combined pop, rock and synth-pop sensibilities with a direct, choir-like vocal arrangement and anthemic chorus designed for mass appeal and fundraising.
