The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are an American rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in the early 1960s, known for their surf rock roots and later expansive pop and studio-based experimentation. Centered initially on the vocal harmonies and songwriting of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson along with cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, the group blended close four- and five-part vocal harmonies with themes of youth, cars and California surf culture before moving toward more sophisticated arrangements and production techniques. Their sound incorporated elements of pop, rock, rhythm and blues and orchestral instrumentation, and they are noted for intricate vocal arrangements, inventive studio production and a transition from singles-oriented surf hits to conceptually ambitious albums.
